Overview

This VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Complementary Therapies is a comprehensive and practical course, ideal for individuals who want to gain a recognised qualification in this thriving industry. You will do both practical work in our salon and theory work, with a set amount of home study. Following tutor led demonstrations, you will practise your skills on each other in class and then graduate on to clients when we think you are ready. This course requires a considerable amount of both theory and practical work to gain the underpinning knowledge essential for your practical skills; you will therefore spend time learning anatomy and physiology.

The course is made up of a number of diplomas, including Body Massage, Reflexology, Aromatherapy and Anatomy and Physiology. Attendance is full-time for one year with additional attendance three to four times a year in workshops, outside the normal teaching time.

What Will I Study?

 Learners will develop their awareness of health and safety. They will also develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to consult with clients, successfully set up a business and understand the principles and practices that influence complementary therapies, whilst providing a variety of massage, aromatherapy and reflexology therapies.

  • Business Practice for Complementary Therapies
  • Principles and Practise of Complementary Therapies
  • Knowledge of Anatomy
  • Physiology and Pathology for Complementaty Therapies
  • Providing Body Massage for Complementary Therapies
  • Providing Aromatherapy for Complementary
  • Providing Reflexology for Complementary Therapies.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal qualifications that you must have prior to undertaking this course, however, a good standard of English at GCSE grade A-C / 4-9 is advisable. If you are aged between 16-18 and do not already have English and Maths GCSEs (grade A-C /4-9) then you will be required to complete these alongside your course. 

Materials

You will need a college approved uniform and course text book (order forms are available at interview). Further books will be discussed at the first lesson. You will also need the usual stationary of pens, paper and two A4 folders. One will hold your course notes and another will be used for evidence of your practical performance (portfolio).

Progression

This course will make you employable as a Complementary Therapist, Reflexologist, Aromatherapist or Massage Therapist. Students who successfully complete this course can follow various career paths, including working within salons, spas, clinics and hospices, as well as the NHS. Many also go on to operate a business from home, become a mobile therapist or carry out freelance work.

You could also undertake further study with specialisms in Swedish Body Massage or Providing Therapies for Clients with Cancer or other Life Limiting Conditions.
